the necessity of the gusset!

hi!

the gusset! hmmmm... unless you are a seamstress or a lululemon employee, you most likely have no idea what a gusset is! i didn't know until a customer asked about it about a year ago. a gusset is extra fabric at the crotch area of pants that make mobility with the legs much more comfortable. i am probably one of the minority that doesn't really get bothered by/notice lady lines, or camel toe (ugh gross term!), but i know many many women want to avoid this..eh hem.. look while wearing tight yoga pants. understandable! hehe !

let me just say here, that none of my first generation pants (all styles that i sell in my shop before i started working with my seamstress) have had a problem with lady lines. but i most definitely find the gusset to be super comfortable to stretch your body in. it just makes more sense to have a pocket to protect your... vagina. there said it. so what. haha it had to come up in this post.

all of my new pants and shorts, and bottoms from here on have the gusset. i did some snooping around lululemon (well not snooping, anyone can read the customer reviews to products. it just feels like snooping when i'm trying to fix problems customers have with lulu.), and noticed that they changed the shape of the gusset. from a diamond to a triangle. ladies are complaining that the triangle does not work, and ends up more towards your butt when wearing the pants, rather than at the crotch where it's supposed to be. lulu will probably fix this, but i want to tell all you ladies now that i have the diamond gusset!!! muahahah!!!

purusha is here to make you comfy and beautiful, and i will always always listen to my customers. you, my reader and customer, are EVERYTHING to me. my relationship with you is as important to me as my relationship to a close friend. i create for you, and am completely driven by your feedback. {side note- i'm reading a book right now called 'the man who discovered quality', that discusses the philosophy of w. edward deming, the dude that basically turned japan into a reputable high quality product mecca. he says that the first step to developing a quality business is to plan a product or service that is constantly improving to meet a custumer's need (and provides jobs). i'm sure i will write a post about deming soon! he is already inspiring my business hugely.}

so enjoy the gusset, i knew we had to have it! and feel free to give me any other feedback on products at anytime. thank you! namaste.

my favorite things. {and buy from indie sellers this holiday season.}

good morning my loves! how are you? i feel great today, i had such a peaceful productive weekend.

i am gearing up for the holidays- both as a supplier and a customer! i want you all to know, i'm going to be doing a special black friday-cyber monday sale in my shop! to be honest, i despise this whole 'black friday' thing. ugh, especially the day after thanksgiving, when we reflect on our gratitude for what we already have! i never go out on black friday, but i do love shopping online for sales.

so check into my shop this weekend, and i will definitely be posting on here, FB, and twitter when the sale goes live!

and please check into independent stores online and in real life! please avoid wal-mart and other big stores where your purchases only go to support the people at the very top, instead of local folk that benefit directly from your purchases.

below are some of my favorite items from my favorite etsy sellers and friends. enjoy!

thigh bands and weekend plans.

YAY! happy friday! yippee! what are you up to this weekend?

me, i am going to santa barbara tomorrow to hang out with my cute awesome sister, and i'm working on new purusha designs! look out for LOTS more thigh band/leg band tattoo pants. i don't mean to sound proud (but hey, i am proud!), but the leg band tattoo pants are a 100% original purusha design. no other brands carry a similar design (yet! i know it has to get copied eventually), and i've never seen anything like it done before. so come and get the original here, and check back in a few weeks for some beautiful new leg band pants that are navajo inspired (big thanks to my friend shelby for the idea!) and egyptian inspired. FUN! i may have to start a 'leg band tattoo' section in my etsy shop. hehe ;) i'm wearing the mermaid II pants (photo above) as we speak.

have a beautiful, peaceful, love filled weekends my friends! xo.

abundance.

good morning! how are you?

once a week i have the pleasure of heading down to the fashion district in LA and picking out fun new supplies for purusha! i love it! this place is completely chaotic and wild, fabrics piled to the roof in some stores, and a hustle and grittiness that can only be found in downtown LA. someday i need to head down there and spend the entire day drooling over fabrics and imagining what creations await. usually i spend about 2 hours at a time choosing fabrics, trims, threads, dyes, and other beautiful goodies. i feel so lucky to have these amazing stores only about 40 minutes from my house. there are no fabric stores like this back in connecticut! i'm always thinking while shopping, i wish my mom was here, because she would be as giddy about it as i am. cruising around in the fashion district, i am reminded that there is no limit to creativity. ideas for clothing designs will never run out, so there is no need to worry about reaching any sort of ceiling in active wear clothing creation. yippee! i feel flooded with abundance today. i am so fortunate to have creativity and supplies nearby, people that support what i do all around, amazingly kind customers everywhere, and love in my heart right here to share.

thank you, universe. namaste.

winter solstice plans.

hello my dears!

winter solstice is right around the corner, oh the magic! i love the day when we transition from the darkness to the light. this year i will be in california for christmas/the solstice. it will be a very different experience than connecticut with my family, but i'm excited to begin starting my own traditions with my little family. patrick, liam, and i will be headed up to napa right around december 21st to spend a few days being gluttons and wine-o's. hehe. but for real, i want to create traditions from a mixture of faiths and cultures, to get a taste of it all. i'll be sure to share with you what we end up doing!

even though it's still early, i'm getting excited about the holidays! i love this time of year, there is such a feeling of compassion, nostalgia, and coziness in the air. AND my shop gets really busy, which is a lot of fun!

so i wanted to take this time to announce to any and all of my customers to place your orders soon! in about 2 weeks i will be issuing my cut-off for orders to be completed in time for christmas. my turnaround time with orders is 3-4 weeks, so it's best to plan early if you are wanting to give a purusha gift. but no worries if you don't, there's always time to buy a purusha gift certificate on my site, or give something in january instead. (i always love a lingering late gift).

enjoy these pretty photos that inspire the warm, intimate, loving feelings of the holidays. namaste!

onto the next phase.

good morning my friends! how are you?

above are some photos of my hand dyed purusha pants. they are so fun and vibrant! did you know i still do all my dyeing in our kitchen sink? yep, once a week i dye up a whole batch of items for a week's worth of orders. i've been doing this for about 3 years. pretty crazy!

i used to not give my health and its connection to the dye process much thought. for about a year i didn't even wear a respirator when dyeing, ugh. now i do wear one and i try to take as many safety precautions as i can. i use procion dyes, which are the most low environmental impact dyes out there, but of course they still have their health and eco issues, like any other man made product. i've begun to witness the dyes effects in myself A LOT over the past couple months.

nowadays i almost always have a runny nose. i thought it was allergies from outside or something, or i was just getting sick when i was realllly stuffed up. all day long now i blow my nose and sniffle. but  finally, last night after finishing up dyeing a few pieces and having a sneezing attack, i put the pieces together. patrick and i talked and looked up procion dye allergies online, and now it's making sense why i feel so irritated in my nose all the time. i've become sensitized to the dyes i use and have developed an allergy to them. part of me is really sad about this, because so much of purusha's revenue comes from my hand dyed stuff. but another part of me is really almost happy about it, because i've been wanting to move beyond dyeing small batches in my kitchen sink. and i know it can't be good for my long term health to be working with dyes in a non-factory non-safety certified setting. like a lot of big changes in my life, i am just being forced to quit and move on to the next bigger and better thing. i know it will work out and bring on something cooler than before!

for now, i'm going to slowly begin removing the hand dyed items from my shop and start replacing them with new stuff that is similar that i don't dye. AND i'm still planning on doing a kickstarter so that i can produce some of the more popular hand dyed styles in some factories in LA! so fear not, peaceful peacock pants lovers, the hand dyed looks won't be gone for good, just until i can get them manufactured.

as i sit here typing this with a stuffed up head, i know this is the right decision. as hard as it is to have to discontinue something that was selling well, it's probably better to put my health above money. it's been a fun run, procion dyes, but it's time for the next phase.

{p.s. when i begin manufacturing some styles, what pants would you want to see continued?}

what would you do if you weren't afraid?

only about an hour ago i was somewhere far far away, deep within my subconscious in a holy transformative dream. the moments between waking and sleeping are so magical and powerful, you feel as if you can almost bring with you what was found in a dream. my dream early this morning struck right to my core, to my deepest insecurities.

i dreamt that i was facing a giant crippling fear of mine, my fear of public speaking. i signed up for a stand up comedy class (amazing right?!), and showed up to a brightly lit white windowless room to meet a black guy (who reminded me of chris rock) that was instructing the class. he was very likable and seemed effortlessly funny and comfortable with himself. there were about 5 other people in the class. i commented on the brightness of the lights in the room, and the teacher dimmed them. he had us all sit on the floor about 5 feet apart from each other. our teacher said 'we're going to ease you into comedy little by little, beginning with some simple exercises to get you comfortable with speaking from your heart and from a place of ease. that's where the funny stuff comes from, just speaking frankly and without fear.'

usually when i'm in a setting where we have to go around and each speak, i begin getting nervous right away. i anticipate my turn and look back to past experiences of speaking that didn't go well. it hasn't gone "well" since about 4th grade (ah!), so i have a lot of stupid negative times to draw memories from (yippee). but oddly, in this dream i wasn't that nervous. i knew that i had signed up for the class to face my fears and i was ready to leave them behind. it was a feeling of, i just don't give a shit anymore, and it felt amazing.

the topic our teacher gave us was, speak on a problem you have with food or a food allergy. how random right? there were 2 people before me that spoke almost in rhymes, they were funny and clever, and i kinda knew there was no way i was gonna talk like that. when my turn came i was my usual awkward public speaking self. my voice trembled slightly and i croaked, 'i don't really have any problems with foods. i suppose though when i drink too much wine or eat too many sweets i get a sugar hangover the next day...' and then i basically blacked out from there. after class i asked people, 'i don't know what happened! how did i do?' they told me i was really nervous at first, but then the teacher threw a towel over my head and i began to relax. they said he does that for people like me, because when they feel like no one can look at them, they calm down and find their rhythm. the other students told me after the towel was over my face i was awesome! i was finally myself- funny, calm, speaking like i would to a close friend.

i felt SO powerful in that moment, like my whole life could change now that i was facing my fear. the possibilities were endless, suddenly i could go after everything i ever wanted that i thought i couldn't have before. so much revolves around confidence, letting go of what others think of you, and speaking in front of others with conviction and calmness. it's embarrassing to say, but i over think myself a lot, and it holds me back from putting myself out there. by 'out there' i mean; trying new things where i might be the center of attention, meeting people i admire, introducing myself to someone i want to be friends with (such a challenge when living in a new place!), promoting my business in person (not behind a computer), and just being my weird silly self with people that i've just met. i know of course that i'm not alone in these feelings, and they are pretty common. but i realized in that dream how badly somewhere within me i want to overcome my fears.

it's like my conscious mind has sort of given up on overcoming habitual thought patterns and is focused on daily tasks, but my subconscious is still very much set on making a go of living without fear. and i REALLY want my conscious mind to join my subconscious. when i first woke up, the separate minds were for a few minutes united in their thinking, and it was beautiful and freeing. i don't know if i've ever felt that carefree before. can you imagine, living your life without any fears? and imagine what we could do??! we could live our lives with so much love and courage and always move forward. there would be nothing causing us to second guess ourselves, and no decisions made from places where we store our dark memories.

living like this is possible! but not easy, that's for sure. we have to overcome our habitual thought patterns, and retrain our minds to draw from the powerful subconscious. our subconscious doesn't want to sleep all day and only come out at night. it wants to be a witness to what our conscious mind tells ourself each day, and correct it when it tells a lie. negative experiences from the past must not be dwelled upon anymore, they are useless to the new people we are today. we can be whoever we want to be, and we are not constricted to the collection of stories we tell ourselves. within us all there is such a deep longing to realize our full capacity to live fearlessly, and make decisions from a place of compassion and respect for the creativity and drive stored in a treasure chest in our brain. (i know there is a section of the brain where creativity comes from, but i'm just calling it a treasure chest ;) ).

today i am waking up a bit, and remembering the person i really am. we end up becoming a collection of cells, clusters of thoughts and dreams that we decide are worthy cargo for our day. so what's worthy? only what is true. i am not bad at being myself in front of others, i don't worry when it's my turn to speak. i'm excited to share myself- my love, my humor, my honesty- with the world. because i am all those things. and we can do literally whatever we tell ourselves we can do. we are as limitless as we believe. so lets live this way, like we have nothing to fear and only ourselves to give. i might have to wear a towel over my head at first, ha, but it's a start.

namaste.

{p.s. i think part of the reason for my dream is this:

i've been reflecting on these symptoms for a few days now, and i want to lose myself in my awakening. sorry if you've already seen it twice this week, but i really feel like it must be memorized.}

hope.

so i probably should have written something 'political' yesterday huh? patrick was like, 'you wrote about spiders on election day?!' oops. after all the politicizing recently, i think i had to just shut down and go into spider love mode.

yesterday was interesting. most of my friends, and friends on FB, are liberal. it was beautiful to see everyone so happy about obama's win, and i sure felt relieved. the idea of romney winning scares me a lot as a woman. i just don't think the anti-gay, anti-women, hyper religious can win in america anymore. it's too backwards. watching the rallies on the computer last night, i felt inspired by the obama celebrations. (i haven't watched his speech yet, but i'm gonna today- heard it was awesome!), and at the same time i felt a little sad for the republicans at the romney rally. losing sucks. even if you are a bit bigoted. lol.

i voted for jill stein yesterday. if i lived in a swing state i would have voted for obama, but because CA is blue i figured why not.

it's clear that americans are very divided on politics, but i think we all can most definitely agree the political process is super flawed. it's driven by money, like most things in the world. i don't mean to be cynical, but i don't see this ever changing. embarrassingly, i didn't even know who jill stein was until a few days ago. 3rd party candidates get no press, they can't debate the republicans or democrats, and they never win. it's really sad, and it's because they don't have millions of dollars. money (i just typed momney for a second!) rules the world. i wish there was something we could do to change the system. perhaps we will, because we'll have to, over time, but that's the thing. big changes takes time. so we can only wait, hope, and keep living at our highest potential striving for our own highest good.

i'm happy obama won. i am hopeful in his second term that he'll be able to make bigger changes.

i feel lucky. i can vote, i'm healthy, i live in a country where i'm not persecuted for being me. today is good.

the spider post.

good morning!

aw the long awaited for spider blog post, right?! RIGHT?! i know you guys have been just dying to hear my thoughts and ramblings on spiders. but seriously, i just want to use this time to tell you all how much i love spiders. they are such cool creatures!

the spider in the first photo is the kind of spider we have most in our house, a cellar spider. these guys are so nice. they just mind their own business and stay in one spot waiting for some bugs. whenever we have an ant problem these spiders really do their part and eat at least 5 ants. well, they don't do much to actually kill the ant population, but i still feel good knowing they are eating the annoying bugs that are trying to eat our food!

don't freak out ok? but recently i've counted and we probably have around 15 cellar spiders in our house. 10 of them were in our bathroom. patrick and i basically agreed perhaps there were too many in there. like everywhere you look, there's one. haha. so yesterday i caught 6 of them and set them free outside. good-bye my little friends. one bigger guy we released, he was so cute, he just charged away so fast to take shelter under an outdoor shelf, and liam was SO close to stepping on him. phew! after we let some go, i must say, i really missed them. what a weirdo huh? i went to brush my teeth last night and looked around and saw no one :(. so lonely. 'pat!', i said, 'i miss the spiders! why did i put them outside?!' patrick said, 'don't worry, they'll be back.' that made me feel better.

the other day i saw a jumping spider on our couch! just like the guy in the second photo. if you don't like spiders, i think a good spider to get you more into spiders is the jumping spider. these cuties are really special. they can actually look at you, like turn their heads up to gaze at your face. and they jump! plus, they have to capability to kill dangerous spiders- like brown recluses and black widows. pretttty bad ass.

i just googled 'spider', and found this gem :

enjoy!

the villa.

hi guys! sorry i've been gone from the blog for a bit. sometimes you just don't have anything really interesting to write about/show photos of. i mean, i probably could have come up with something, but i didn't want to force it.

so what cha think of pat and i's new house? lol. i wish! patrick and i visited pacific palisades this weekend, pretty close to topanga, and we are IN LOVE. i want to live there. ah, it's soo beautiful! super close to the beach and LA, but still has all the incredible canyon beauty of topanga. and most houses sell for at least a million bucks. no prob, right?! ;)

we went on a hike in pac pali and pat and liam were suffering mild dehydration, so we had to turn back somewhat early. haha. after the hike we decided to take a drive to some neighborhoods where the really wealthy live. why not drive up to the street speilberg and whoopi goldberg used to live on?! ok! this road was unreal! it's totally jaw drawing to see how some people live. patrick and i wanted to get out of the car and ask the people in their perfect yards, 'how did you do this? please. we need help. help us do this.' haha. instead of doing that, we saw a sign for an open house and thought, let's check this thing out. nervously we straightened out or clothing, and told each other 'we could be rich. we look fine'... and walked down to the AMAZING 11 million dollar house. pat was wearing his 'utterly fantastic teat puller' farming shirt (oh shit), and the woman realtor commented on it with a laugh pretty quickly. pat was like, umm sorry for the foul shirt, i was just working out. haha, we were good, we go to these kinds of open houses allll the time. ;)

i want that house. so bad. i feel like a greedy sick person, but i must have a house like that. the pool- perfect, the view of their own vineyard, the canyon, and the ocean in the distance- nothing better. the bathroom, oh my gosh, i could live in that bathroom forever. it had a huge stone shower with a big window that opened up to view the vineyard and the ocean. me and the realtor were just like, can you even imagine showering in there?! NO. i can't even imagine. haha, i guess i can, but it's like a dream. the living room was so open and bright, and the 3 dining rooms weren't bad either. downstairs was a pool table, poker table, a wine cellar with vintage wines awaiting, a '53 gibson guitar... and a few steps away from the house there were 2 guesthouses complete with their own kitchen and bathroom. the kitchen was sweet, but if i was rich i would probably redo that whole part. it took us at least a half hour to even walk around the whole place. and it's not that it was all that huge, it was just so interesting and had amazing details.

upon leaving we told the realtor we had a few other places to check out, but we were definitely considering it. yes, i thought, i really am considering this. after leaving the "villa", patrick, liam, and i got some mexican food in town and brainstormed and saw the house lust in each other's eyes. don't get me wrong, i am not a greedy person, but just like most americans we have the dream to own a house someday. it's sad that with the state of the economy, it is harder than ever to make this dream a reality. with our incomes, 30 years ago we could have had a house. but not today. haha, we figured to buy a house like that all i have to do is make 14 times what i make right now. not too bad right?! just make $2000 a day. each. haha. the mortgage for the house is $37,000 a month. HA. HA. HA. can you imagine?

who knows where my life will take me? it's going to be an adventure, this i am sure of. if anything, seeing this house was inspiring. to continue to work hard so one day we can have a house. maybe not that house, but a house where we can have children and live in peace, without worry about making ends meet. and coming home to our humble abode in topanga, i still felt very very happy. because yes, money matters, but what good would it be without love? i know it's a cliche, but i think we can all agree that without love life sucks. i love my life so much, and i feel like i have enough. and of course it's all relative. we live better than some, worse than others. to be happy in the moment while planning for the future is the best i can do.

hope you had a lovely weekend my dears!
